About
Carlos Orta
I am an independent graphic designer and creative technologist based in the Chicago area. My work sits at the intersection of visual design and technology, from brand identities and editorial layouts to interactive digital experiences.
I hold an M.S. in Graphic Information Technology from Arizona State University, an MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a B.F.A. in Visual Communication from Northern Illinois University, and an A.A.S. from College of DuPage. My career in information technology spans more than 25 years, and I currently serve as Senior Manager of Technical Infrastructure at a nonprofit association. That background in systems thinking shapes how I approach design: methodical, user-centered, and grounded in real constraints.
My creative practice spans visual identity, typography, editorial design, photography, and digital experiences. I bring the same rigor to every project, whether I'm designing a brand mark for a freelance client or evaluating the information architecture of a consumer-facing platform.
